1) keep extra small things, like rubber bands, paper clips, and erasers in a little tin, like an empty Altoids container, or something similar.
2) Clean up extra papers on the bottom of your locker as soon as you see them. Throw them out, or put them back in a folder.
4) Keep library books, and other things you need to return to someone, on a top shelf, or in another location where you can easily find them, and where they won't get lost. Also, if you need to keep it in your backpack, make sure it doesn't get stuck at the bottom, and lost or destroyed. Which brings me to the next tip...
5) Clean out your backpack once a month. You can easily lose small things, and papers at the bottom, and even rip and break things without meaning to. Besides the fact that extra papers and books at the bottom of your backpack add extra weight, which could make your book bag get really heavy...
6) If you find yourself running out of room in a folder or binder, take it home and look through it, Throw out what you don't need. If you aren't sure if you should keep it or not, stick that in a separate folder, and put it back in your locker. Then, ask your teacher after/before class if you need those things anymore. If he/she says no, but you think you might want to keep them, take the folder home, so you can easily use them to study, and easily throw them out if you decide you don't need them anymore. If he/she says yes, put those things back in your original folder or binder.
7) There have been a lot of times when people ask me to borrow pencils, or erasers, or something, and they never return them. Or, they claim it's theirs. So, here's an idea. Write down who you lend things to, the date, and what it is, so you can 1) remember and 2)have proof when they tell you it's theirs. You can also write your name on your pencil. Speaking of that...
8) If you aren't fond of writing your name on your pencil, here's a simple system to mark all your pencils and pens. Option 1: write your initials at the end of the pencil, near the eraser. Option 2, the Symbol System: make a mark, like a star or a heart or a smiley face or something, in the same place. Or, I know some people who do this: Option 3: If it is a no. 2 pencil, the kind you have to sharpen, color the tip of it. (The wooden part that isn't whatever color the pencil is. not the lead.) Option 4: If it is a mechanical pencil, break off the clip of it. (The part you use to clip it onto something.) But, just so you know, some people accidentally do that, so I personally wouldn't prefer this. Anyways, now you can point it out to tell as more proof that it's your pencil.
9) Just like people like to steal pencils, people like to steal erasers. Of course, sometimes people just mistake it for their own, or forget to give it back, but you still probably want to get it back. So, write you name on it, or initials, (if it's the kind that does NOT go on the end of your pencil), or use your Symbol System!
10) Hide things!! So you might have money or something in your locker or backpack, which is always smart. But if you don't have a lock, it could easily get stolen. So, use an Altiods container, or something like that, to put money or other small, important things in. People will think it's just mints if they see it. You can also use other sorts of containers that people aren't likely to touch as hiding places, or put it in a bag, and stick it under things. (Just make sure not to lose it)You could also put it in things, in things, in things. Or, some backpacks have secret compartments. Put it there! Another idea is to put it in something that is always with you, like a notebook you carry around all day, or something. A simple idea for a notebook, is... read 11. At the end of that I'll explain where to put the money/whatever-it-is.
11) Use a binder clip as a book mark for a notebook. Clip all the used pages together. To hide money here, put it in a bag and stick it at the top of one of the pages, so it is secured with a binder clip.
